<p>Since January 2024 Kenya has run an Electronic Travel Authorisation system instead of visitor visas. It is simpler, cheaper and faster, but only if you know the order of operations.</p><h2>Who needs the ETA</h2><p>Everyone. Every foreign visitor to Kenya, for any purpose and for any length of stay, must hold an approved ETA before you fly. It covers tourism, business, transit and medical treatment. It does not cover East African Community nationals, who use a common permit instead.</p><h2>How to do it</h2><p>Apply online through the official portal, upload your passport bio page and face photograph, pay the small fee, and approval comes through the same day more often than not. Apply at least three days before departure. Your approval carries a unique number that you should print and keep.</p><h2>The three mistakes people make</h2><ul><li><strong>Wrong passport number.</strong> One digit wrong and the approval will not match your passport at the port of entry.</li><li><strong>Applying with a passport that is about to expire.</strong> Your passport needs six months of validity beyond your arrival date.</li><li><strong>Not printing it.</strong> Screenshots get blocked. Print it, and carry it with the passport.</li></ul><h2>What still needs a visa</h2><p>Kenya is open, but your next destination is not necessarily. Dubai, the UK, Schengen, the USA, Egypt, Rwanda, Tanzania and South Africa all still require either a visa or an eVisa. We handle all of them.</p>
